Building Connection in Real Life: Paishence Williams & the Johnson City Social Club

When Paishence Williams moved from the bustle of Los Angeles to Johnson City, she quickly realized something was missing, not the amenities or charm, but the connection. Making friends as an adult isn’t always easy, and relying on dating apps or social media feeds often leaves people feeling more isolated than ever. Her solution? Johnson City Social Club.
“I knew if I felt this way, others probably did too,” she said.
That simple truth became the spark behind the Johnson City Social Club, a bold, heartfelt answer to a quiet but persistent problem. Now two years in the making, what began as an idea has blossomed into a movement.
The Johnson City Social Club isn’t only about hosting events. It’s about curating experiences that encourage laughter, vulnerability, and real conversations. From co-ed “friends-working” socials to singles mix-and-mingles and ladies-only nights out, every detail, from venue to icebreaker cards, is intentional.
“I’m trying to build a business based on community,” says Paishence, “but I’m also gaining community with Avante. This has made the whole process really, really great.”
The club’s approach is innovative and holistic. It supports local businesses by partnering with venues, restaurants, and shops, boosting the local economy while creating vibrant social spaces. At the same time, it addresses deeper emotional needs: belonging, friendship, and meaningful connection.
Though her core audience is millennial, Paishence has seen growing interest from Gen Z as well. And it’s no wonder, studies show millennials experience the highest rates of loneliness across generations. With fewer IRL opportunities for meeting new people, many are seeking fresh ways to form authentic bonds.
The response to the Johnson City Social Club has been overwhelmingly positive. Word-of-mouth and social media buzz have helped build momentum, and in 2025, Paishence took home third place and a $500 prize in the Avante pitch competition.
In a world where loneliness is on the rise, and screens too often replace smiles, Johnson City Social Club is helping to bring people back together, face to face, laugh to laugh.
Because real community isn’t found in an app.
It’s found across a table, in a conversation, between new friends who just needed a reason to show up.
